Wow -- we loved Boulder. Just to our taste in size, politics, natural and manmade beauty, urban planning, shops, restaurants, coffee shops, freaky people and yuppie people. We actually stayed at the Boulder Mountain Lodge up Boulder Canyon Road, a gorgeous road along Boulder Creek with rocky cliffs and outcroppings all along the way, pines on the rocks, gorgeous rocky creek that wound all around. The town put in a beautiful trail all along the creek which goes from close to our lodge all the way to downtown. We walked it all one day; it was perfectly sunny all day. Here we are.
There were freaky kids like I haven't seen since the early 90's in Chapel Hill, which was fun to have around. Also many bike paths and parking, scooters too. Lots of Buddha influence, meditation, yoga, a bit like Asheville. Also very environmental. We visited a high-end interior design store called Invironments which had all green products, even a whole kitchen countertop made of recycled compacted layers of paper... The girl working there was from NY and a little peeved by how "green" Boulder was. Poor girl.
It was super expensive of course. Property is not even to be looked at, multi-millions. The sign to the left was for 1.8 acres, without a house. On the scenic Boulder Creek, who can complain? We walked a few blocks from shopping Pearl Street up a hill to some obviously very expensive homes -- definitely NOT McMansions. They looked like they were designed by famous Asian-inspired architects, built into hills. One place was full of Buddha art outside, even a full-length lying stone Buddha. Ancient religion of enlightenment as trendy lawn art. We walked into a little cul-de-sac with a mega retaining wall, stone parts and massive landscaping. It was gorgeous and as Rand said, probably worth more than our whole house. Here it is, sorry for the crooked.
